JU Solar Team

JU Solar Team is a student-driven project started in 2013 where students come together to build a solar-powered car with the goal to compete in Bridgestone World Solar Challenge (BWSC) in Australia, where participants compete to finish the 3022 km race between Darwin and Adelaide. 

The latest car of JU Solar Team, Axelight is the team’s most advanced car yet; a three-wheeled car with a drop-shaped design to reduce road and air resistance as much as possible, placing the solar panels on the top to minimize obstruction to the solar cells. 

This design has resulted in the lightest car yet, with a weight of only 140 kg, and a top speed of 170 km/h, compared to the last car, Axelent, which weighed 200kg and had a max speed of approx. 130 km/h. 

The latest race in October of 2023 resulted in the best result so far finishing the race in 7th place securing our standing as northern Europe’s best solar racing team. See more information about JU Solar Team’s cars.

Why choosing LightningChart® .NET?

For many years we used telemetry on our solar cars, but we were never able to display the many hours of data collected in an effective and reliable way. Free and open-source solutions just didn’t perform well enough during our tests and either became very slow or lacked functionality. One of our alumni got to work with LightningChart through his workplace (Husqvarna) and realized its potential.

 We used XY charts for this version of our telemetry suite, where we needed to plot thousands of live data points over many consecutive hours, plus plotting important race data like elevation and reviewing historical data for driving optimization.

What are the best qualities of LightningChart?

Performance, feature richness, intuitiveness, and support. After evaluating the interactive demos and reviewing the code examples provided, we knew that this solution was perfect for our use case. Software won’t be the limiting factor for us anymore when using LightningChart.
